COLLEGE STATION –The No. 2 Texas A&M equestrian team defeated No. 10 Fresno State, 17-3, Friday at the Hildebrand Equine Complex.
With the win, the Aggies are 4-0 to start the season for the first time since the 2011-12 campaign.
"I couldn't be more proud of the team today," head coach Tana McKay said. "Hosting a home meet is a big responsibility, and the team worked really well as a whole. We had some great rides. We go out there and try to ride mistake free, and for the most part, we did that. They were on it today. I am really proud of them. We gained a lot of momentum as we head into a tough meet at Auburn next week."
The Aggies jumped out to an early 4-1 lead after Equitation over Fences as Rebekah Chenelle opened the meet by defeating Hana Beiling, 87-75. Kelsey King followed suit, scoring an 83 on Converse, defeating Erica Rosinski's 76. Caroline Dance notched Most Outstanding Player (MOP) recognition as she topped Cecily Hayes, 86-72. Sarah Orsak defeated Kameron Thorn, 74.5-70, before Kyra Bouma added a point for the Maroon & White by scoring a season-high 76 against Hannah Buij's 74. Earning the final two points were Katie Conklin who outscored Lexi Miller, 75-69.5, and Ashley Davidson, who earned a 75 to down Nicole Campbell's 71.5.
