AUBURN, Ala. – The No. 2 Texas A&M equestrian team travels to No. 1 Auburn for a 3 p.m. meet Friday at the Auburn University Horse Center.
The Aggies, who are off to a 4-0 start to the season for the first time since the 2011-12 campaign, finished 3-0 in the month of October in which they defeated three ranked teams.
Texas A&M is looking for its first win against the nation's No. 1 team since its 11-7 victory over South Carolina at the SEC Championship on March 27, 2015. Friday's meet is the second time the Aggies and Tigers have met while being ranked No. 1 and No. 2 with the previous meeting also being held in Auburn on October 15, 2016, in which Auburn narrowly defeated Texas A&M, 9-9 (1594-1501.5).
Last time out, the Aggies defeated No. 10 Fresno State, 17-3, at the Hildebrand Equine Complex. The Aggies swept Horsemanship, 5-0, and won the remaining three events, 4-1. Alex Albright (Horsemanship), Marissa Harrell (Reining) and Caroline Dance (Fences) each earned Most Outstanding Player (MOP) honors.
Rebekah Chenelle paces the Aggies in the Hunter Seat arena as the senior is 4-0 in both Equitation over Fences and Equitation on the Flat. Rhian Murphy, who posted a season-high score of 91 against Fresno State, is 3-1 in Flat while Caroline Boyle is 2-1.
In Fences, Dance remains unbeaten with a 3-0-1 record, and Grace Boston has added two victories.
Ashley Davidson, who was named the NCEA October Horsemanship Rider of the Month, and Sarah Orsak lead the Horsemanship squad with a 3-0-1 record. Albright is 3-1 with two MOPs.
Harrell, Darby Gardner and Courtney Yohey have each accumulated two wins on the season in Reining.
The defending national champions, Auburn is 3-0 (1-0 SEC) on the season with a 2-0 record at home.
