
Bates and Malherbe Graduate with Honors

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Aggie Soccer standouts Emily Bates and Stephanie Malherbe took part in weekend commencement services signifying their graduation from Texas A&M University.
Bates received her Bachelor of Science in Psychology, graduating magna cum laude with a cumulative GPA above 3.7. Malherbe earned Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting and Master of Science in Financial Management, graduating cum laude with a cumulative GPA above 3.6.
They both earned academic accolades while at Texas A&M. Malherbe was named to the United Soccer Coaches (USC) Scholar All-West Region Team in 2017 and Bates gained the same acclaim in 2018.
Malherbe recorded 87 Aggie caps for her career, including 65 starts. She logged 15 points on four goals and seven assists.
Starting all 22 matches in 2017, Malherbe led the Aggies in minutes for a field player, logging 2,013 minutes. She helped the Aggies win 14 games in a row that season, a school record, and was part of a defense that didn't allow a multi-goal game throughout SEC play.
An Olympian, Malherbe played for South Africa at the 2016 Rio Games. During her stint she performed valiantly in a 1-0 loss to the USA in a warmup match and then played all 270 minutes in the Olympics, including a 0-0 draw against host Brazil.
Bates finished her career with 78 Aggie caps, including 73 starts. She compiled 53 points on 20 goals and 13 assists. She earned SEC All-Freshman in 2015 and was named to the SEC Championship All-Tournament Team in 2015 and 2017. She scored the game-winning goal in the 88th minute of the SEC Tournament championship match against Arkansas in 2017.
The Melissa, Texas, native played in 21 matches in 2018, including 20 starts. Bates finished the season with four goals and earned USC All-Southeast Region Second Team.
