Women's Golf Finishes Third At The Dickson
Feb 27, 2018 | Women's Golf
Texas A&M's women's golf team finished third at The Dickson, shooting a 2-over 290 in the only round of play at The Woodlands Country Club. The tournament was shortened from three rounds to one after Monday's play was canceled.
"Our team made it their mission to be a scrappy, gritty team and that's just what they did," said Texas A&M head coach Trelle McCombs. "We didn't have a great start, and they kicked into gear coming down the stretch. When you only have 18 holes to perform, you have to make sure that you fight for every shot. Pure scrappy, that's how I'd describe today's performance."
Maddie Szeryk and Amber Park led the Aggies, each shooting a 1-under 71 to finish in a tie for sixth. For Park, it represents her best career finish, and the second career Top 10 finish for the freshman from Allen. Szeryk finished in the Top 10 for the sixth time in seven events this season, and has finished even par in five tournaments this season.
Courtney Dow shot a 1-over 73, with her day highlighted by a 2-under back nine on the par 72 / 6,392 yard Tournament Course. She finished tied for 21st, her fifth Top 25 performance this season. Elizabeth Caldarelli shot a 4-over 75 to tie for 38th, and Chloe Velasco shot a 9-over 81 to finish tied for 81st. Competing as an individual, Ariana Saenz shot a 10-over 82 to tie for 84th.
Sasikarn Somboonsup of Texas State earned medalist honors by shooting a 5-under 67. Clemson took home the team trophy with a 5-under 283.
The Aggies return to competition on March 13-14 at the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational in Kane'ohe, Hawai'i.
