Houston Alumni Invitational next destination for Aggies this weekend
Apr 05, 2018 | Track and Field
HOUSTON – Texas A&M will compete in the Houston Alumni Invitational this Friday and Saturday on the Tom Tellez Track at the Carl Lewis Complex. The team-scored, six-team field includes host Houston, with its men's team ranked No. 3 nationally, along with Lamar, Rice, Tulane and Houston Baptist.
The Aggies enter the weekend with the men ranked No. 2 nationally and the women at No. 3. This will be the third consecutive week for Texas A&M to compete in the state of Texas following meets in San Antonio and Austin.
"Houston has a good squad with some good athletes right now," noted Texas A&M head coach Pat Henry. "It'll be a competitive situation for us. It's the type of meet we need following the Texas Relays and it's the kind of competition that will benefit us.
"This is one of the reasons we want to go to Houston. If we compete there on a regular basis then we would develop our Aggie group in Houston. They would know the Aggies are coming to town and can come out and watch them."
Events held on Friday in the Houston Alumni Invitational include the men's hammer and women's javelin at 2 p.m., the men's javelin and women's hammer at 4 p.m., the women's pole vault at 5:30 p.m., and a pair of 5,000m races beginning at 6:30 p.m.
Saturday's schedule begins with field events at 11 a.m. and running events starting at 11:30 a.m. with the final events wrapping up around 3 p.m. Results from the meet will be available online at http://www.flashresultstexas.com/2018/uhalumni18/
"We will compete a lot of people, I think we will have around 90 athletes in the meet this weekend, and give them an opportunity. This is still a critical part of the season where you need to compete hard and do everything you can to remain healthy."
