
Women's Golf's Park Finishes Seventh In Stroke Play At East & West Challenge

ANN ARBOR, Mich.- Texas A&M women's golf's Amber Park finished seventh in the stroke play portion of the East & West Match Play Challenge with an even-par 144 over 36 holes on Sunday.
Park shot a 2-under 70 on her first trip through the par 72 / 6,292-yard Radrick Farms Golf Club, and was tied for second place. She shot a 2-over 74 in the afternoon, and finished only four strokes individual champion Jaclyn Lee of Ohio State (140, -4).
"We really had fun out there. I see a lot of good things that they're doing," said Andrea Gaston, who made her debut as Texas A&M head coach Sunday. "The greens were very challenging, with a lot of huge breaking putts. There is a lot of great upside I see with this team, and I was very pleased with a lot of things today."
Texas A&M enters the match play portion of the event seeded sixth, after shooting a 14-over 590 (293-297) Sunday. The Aggies face host school Michigan in the consolation semifinals of the event.
"It's an opportunity to step up, and I think the girls are excited about the opportunity to play match play," said Gaston, who previously led Southern California to match play at the NCAA Championship in all four seasons of the format. "It will be great experience for our girls, because obviously we plan to compete in this format for SEC and NCAA Championships soon."
Two newcomers to the Texas A&M squad, transfer Ava Schwienteck and freshman Brooke Tyree, tied for 17th place with a 3-over 147. Schwienteck led the Aggies with seven birdies, posting rounds of 74-73. Tyree shot an even-par 72 in her first collegiate round, then shot a 3-over 75 in the second round, completing a steady day with par on 26 of 36 holes.
Courtney Dow finished with at 8-over 152, shooting rounds of 77-75 to tie for 31st. Elizabeth Caldarelli tied for 44th at 14-over 158, carding two rounds of 79. Competing as an individual, Chloe Velasco shot an 18-over 162, posting an 81 in each round.
The Aggies tee off against Michigan, starting at 9:03 a.m. CT Monday. Velasco competes in the individual match play portion of the event against Vivian Lee of Iowa State, starting at 8:45 a.m.
