
TOURNAMENT PREVIEW: Shriners Hospitals for Children College Classic

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Texas A&M Aggies hit the road for the first time in 2019 as they travel to Minute Maid Park to play in the 2019 Shriners Hospitals for Children College Classic with play beginning Friday. The Maroon & White face three Lone Star foes at the tournament, including a pair of teams ranked in the top 25.
Friday's contest pairs the Aggies with No. 18 Baylor at 7 p.m. Saturday's game features Texas A&M and No. 17 TCU at 7 p.m. The Maroon & White wrap up the tournament Sunday with a game against Houston at 3 p.m.
The Aggies own a 15-12 record in the tournament and won the crown in 2015 with wins against Nebraska (2-1), Houston (6-0) and Baylor (3-2). In previous trips to the tournament, A&M has gone 2-1 on four occasions and 1-2 four times. In 2017, the Aggies opened the tournament with a 9-0 win against Texas Tech before falling to TCU, 11-10, in 15 innings, and dropping the finale to Baylor, 6-3, on a walk-off grand slam.
Texas A&M starting pitchers have registered a 5-1 record with a 1.42 ERA, .184 opponent batting average, 6.00 K-to-BB ratio and 0.86 WHIP through 10 starts. The weekend starters have combined to allow just two extra-base hits in 33.2 innings of work. The Aggies' weekend rotation has been one of the nation's best through the first two weekends. John Doxakis, Asa Lacy and Jonathan Childress have combined for a 1.07 ERA, .136 opponent batting average, 0.65 WHIP and 7.67 K-to-BB ratio.
Texas A&M ranks near the top of the charts on the nation's strikeout lists. Texas A&M leads the country in K-to-BB ratio (5.89) and they rank fifth in Strikeouts Per Nine Innings (12.4). Lacy ranks fifth in the nation in strikeouts (21) and 12th in strikeouts per nine innings (17.18). Doxakis ranks ninth in strikeouts (20) and 28th in K-to-BB ratio (10.0).
