COLLEGE STATION – The Texas A&M women's tennis team hosts No. 21 Kentucky Saturday at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center at 11 a.m. (CT). The Aggies (15-3, 3-2) are facing off against their third straight top-25 opponent as the Wildcats (14-2, 4-1) come to town.
Prior to the match against the Wildcats, A&M will host kid's court with 100 free kolaches and an appearance by Reveille.
"We had a great win yesterday and that should give us some added confidence going into another battle tomorrow" Texas A&M women's tennis head coach Mark Weaver said. "We have to approach every match the same was as a very good team in Kentucky is coming to town tomorrow, they are coming off of a very good win in beating LSU in Baton Rouge last night. It will be another great opportunity for us as we finish out our home weekend of SEC play."
Last time out, the Aggies defeated No. 4 Vanderbilt, 4-2, Friday evening at the Mitchell Tennis Center. In the win, freshman Katya Townsend earned the highest ranked win by a freshman in program history as she topped No. 3 Fernanda Contreras. Townsend's classmate, Renee McBryde, earned the first ranked win of her career as she clinched the win for the Aggies. McBryde defeated No. 32 Amanda Meyer, of Vanderbilt, in three-sets to clinch the win for the Maroon & White.
A&M's Jayci Goldsmith, a freshman from Dripping Springs, Texas, earned the highest ranking for the Aggies in the March 5 edition of the Oracle/ITA Division I National Singles Rankings. The lefthander moved to No. 100 as she stands at 13-3 this spring and 22-5 overall. Goldsmith and sophomore Tatiana Makarova raced up the rankings to No. 31 in the country. The pair are 10-4 in dual matches and lead the team with two ranked wins this year.
A&M has posted an astonishing 76-18 singles record and 29-10 doubles mark in dual matches this spring. Following the match up against the Wildcats, the Aggies hit the road for a match at Missouri on Friday and at Arkansas on Sunday.
