No. 13 Texas A&M Tennis Set for Sunday Doubleheader Against Arizona State and Incarnate Word
Feb 22, 2020 | Men's Tennis
COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The No. 13 Texas A&M men's tennis team (6-3) hosts Arizona State (3-4) and Incarnate Word (2-3) at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center Sunday afternoon. The Aggies and Sun Devils are set to serve it up at 1 p.m. with the match against the Cardinals to follow at 5 p.m.
"Tomorrow is chance for us to take another step forward," Texas A&M head coach Steve Denton said. "We took some strides on Friday against Rice, but we need to keep improving and play well in tough conditions. Arizona State is very tough team that is in the upper echelon of the Pac 12."
The Maroon & White return to action after sweeping Rice Friday evening at the Mitchell Tennis Center.
Last season the Aggies defeated Arizona State, 5-2, in Waco after rain forced the match to be relocated. After claiming the doubles point, A&M picked up wins by Carlos Aguilar, Hady Habib, Barnaby Smith and Noah Schachter. A&M defeated UIW, 7-0, in the second half of a double header a season ago.
The Aggies enlist a trio of ranked singles student-athletes, highlighted by No. 3 Vacherot. Vacherot entered the spring season following one of the most impressive fall campaigns by an Aggie in program history, advancing to at least the semifinals at the ITA All-American, ITA Texas Regional and the ITA National Fall Championships. Joining Vacherot in the rankings are No. 31 Carlos Aguilar and No. 34 Hady Habib.
