Bats Power Aggies to 12-7 Win over Titans

STANFORD, Calif. – The Texas A&M baseball team opened NCAA Regional play with an impressive offensive display in Friday evening's 12-7 victory over the Cal State Fullerton Titans at Sunken Diamond.
After falling behind 3-0 in the top of the second inning, Texas A&M (37-25) offered an immediate response with five runs in the home half of the second. They put up three runs in both the third and fourth innings to take a commanding 11-3 lead.
The Texas A&M offense was a well-oiled machine, batting .478 (11-for-23) with runners on base. The Aggies took advantage of free bases with 12 walks and one hit batsman.
Hunter Haas reached base in all six of his plate appearances, going 2-for-2 with three walks, one HBP, one double, one run and two RBI. Max Kaufer batted 3-for-5 with one run and three RBI.
The first three times through the order, the Aggies' No. 5-7 hitters Jordan Thompson, Ryan Targac and Austin Bost combined to go 3-for-3 with six walks and nine runs. Targac was 2-for-3 with his ninth home run of the year, three runs and two RBI.
Shane Sdao (4-1) was dominant in his relief performance to earn the victory. The freshman pitched 4.0 blank innings with one hit allowed, two walks and four strikeouts.
After surrendering the three runs in the top of the inning, the first three batters in the home half reached base with Thompson and Austin Bost walks sandwiched around a Targac single. Kaufer broke the scoring seal with a single and a base on balls issued to Hunter Haas trimmed the lead to one run. The Aggies took the lead wi th a two-run single by Jack Moss and Trevor Werner added a sac fly, staking the Maroon & White to a 5-3 advantage.
The Aggie third inning featured a two-run single by Brett Minnich and Kaufer drove in another run with a base hit through the left side of the infield.
Texas A&M's advantage ballooned to 11-3 with a two-run dinger by Targac and an RBI double by Haas in the fourth.
Cal State Fullerton creeped back into striking distance with one run in the seventh and three runs in the eighth to cut the gap to 11-7.
The Maroon & White tacked on an insurance run when Kaufer drove in his third run in the bottom of the eighth and Matt Dillard struck out three of the four batters he faced in the ninth to close out the game.
It marked the 22nd time the Aggies have scored 10 or more runs in NCAA Tournament play.

With an out, Thompson walked for the third time and Targac hit a longball to bring both all the way around. Bost singled to left center and advanced to second when Minnich went to base on balls. Haas doubled down the leftfield line to bring Bost home.

With an out on the board Zach Lew doubled and Caden Connor singled to score Lew.

With an out, back-to-back singles hit by Urman and Colby Wallace put Titans on first and second. Brendan Bobo singled and advanced to second on a throwing error to score Urman. Lew singled through the left side to clear the bases and tab two more runs.

Stanley Tucker walked with an out and advanced to second on a wild pitch and Minnich walked. Kaufer singled up the middle with two outs and Tucker scored.
