MEET PREVIEW: Razorback Invitational
Jan 25, 2024 | Track and Field
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Texas A&M track & field program hits the road for the first time this season as it travels to the Razorback Invitational which will run Jan. 26-27 at the Randal Tyson Track Center.
"We had a good meet with good competition last weekend," head coach Pat Henry said. "The effort was really good from our athletes and if that continues the results will follow."
Last time out, the Maroon & White secured seven event wins across the track and field. The reigning Women's SEC Field Athlete of the Week, Lamara Distin highlighted the meet winning the high jump soaring over the bar set at 1.94m/6-4.25, which is the second highest clearance in the nation this season. Joniar Thomas followed in the women's long jump with a leap of 6.56m/21-6.25 to secure the win, the jump also propelled her from No. 11 to No. 3 on A&M's all-time performers list. Heather Abadie and Jade Johnson claimed the final two victories in the field events, as Abadie won the women's pole vault (4.17m/13-8.25), and Johnson the women's triple jump (12.52m/41-1).
On the track, Connor Schulman recorded a top-12 time in the nation in the men's 60m hurdles (7.72) to ensure his first victory of the season. Eric Casarez topped the men's mile group in a time of 4:05.52, while Freshman Jack Johnston won the first event of his indoor career in the men's 3,000m, finishing in 8:23.49.
"We'll see most of the conference this weekend," coach Henry added. "There will be huge talent at the facility and that creates a very competitive environment. It's important for us to see who can compete in these situations, that's the value of meets like this."
Sixteen programs are making the trip to Arkansas, with 10 of those coming from the SEC. Along with A&M, the list includes, Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Iowa State, Kentucky, LSU, Mississippi State, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Ole Miss, Oregon, South Carolina, St. Augustine and USC.
