No. 12 Men’s Tennis Opens Conference Play Against Gators
Feb 29, 2024 | Men's Tennis
GAINESVILLE – The No. 12 Texas A&M men's tennis team begins conference play on the road against the Florida Gators Friday, March 1, at the Alfred A. Ring Tennis Complex with first serve set for 4 p.m.
"We start the season over, and we have a lot of respect for both teams this weekend," head coach Steve Denton said. "Any road win in the league is very hard and we will need to be mentally tough in order to be successful. Hopefully our tough non-conference schedule will pay dividends as we transition into league play."
The Aggies (9-2) are coming off a doubleheader sweep against Pepperdine and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. The Maroon & White defeated the Waves, 4-3, where Togan Tokac clinched the match with a three-set thriller. Texas A&M turned right around and dominated Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, 6-1, to seal the doubleheader sweep.
Although official league play is just beginning, the Aggies have already taken down three conference opponents. At ITA Kickoff Weekend, the Maroon & White defeated Auburn, 4-2, and No. 19 Georgia, 4-2. Additionally, A&M turned in a dominant performance against No. 4 South Carolina, 4-1.
A&M won the last match against Florida, 4-3, in Aggieland. The Maroon & White lead the all-time series, 10-8, against the Gators. Florida is 4-4 on the season with its last win coming against UCF.
