Feb 26, 2024 | Softball
BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – The No. 17 Texas A&M softball team is set to host Sam Houston at 6 p.m. at Davis Diamond.
IT STARTS AND ENDS IN THE CIRCLE
The Texas A&M pitching staff has reaped the benefits of head coach Trisha Ford's mentoring as the group boasts a 1.27 ERA, while holding opposing batters to a .188 batting average. The quartet of Shaylee Ackerman, Emiley Kennedy, Emily Leavitt and Brooke Vestal have only handed out 22 free bases in 94.0 innings of work. Kennedy has showcased her versatility as a pitcher to start and finish games, whether that's from beginning to end or being called on from the pen. The junior has registered six complete games in seven starts, while earning a save in each of her two other appearances. She boasts a .66 WHIP, while batters are averaging .133 against her at the plate.
NATIONAL RANKINGS
The Aggies rank top 15 in the nation in numerous categories including, eighth best in home runs (22), earned run average (1.27) and strikeout-to-walk ratio (4.73), as well as No. 10 in fielding percentage (.982), No. 12 in slugging percentage (.606) and No. 15 in on-base percentage (.442). Individually, Kennedy leads the nation in shutouts with four and has punched out the seventh-most batters in the country at 56. Offensively, Allie Enright is sixth in the nation with a 1.135 slugging percentage and eighth with seven doubles. LONG BALL FOR THE WIN

Nineteen of the team's home runs have come in the friendly confines of Davis Diamond, including nine dingers in four games on opening weekend and 10 bell ringers in five games during the Texas A&M Invitational.
DON'T LET KOKO GO LOKO
After beginning the first five games of the season with a .176 batting average, junior Koko Wooley has gone loko the previous 10 games batting .471 at the dish. During that span, she leads the team with 16 hits and is second on the squad with nine runs. The speedster leads the team with nine stolen bases on the season, including seven swipes in seven attempts within the last 10 games. Wooley recently showcased her elite speed in the extra innings win over UTSA as she placed a bunt for a single that led to an errant throw scoring the game-tying run.
