MEET PREVIEW: Texas A&M Invitational
Mar 21, 2024 | Track and Field
BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – The Texas A&M track & field team hosts the Texas A&M invitational Saturday at E.B. Cushing Stadium with field events starting at 12:30 p.m. and track events starting at 5:30 p.m.
Following a year-long hiatus from hosting home meets due to the construction of the new R.A. "Murray" Fasken '38 Indoor Track & Field facility, the Aggies return to Cushing Stadium to host six teams for the Texas A&M Invitational.
"It's fun to competing in our own place," head coach Pat Henry said. "With the construction of our new indoor facility we couldn't host events last year. Now we're excited to be back putting on big meets again and I think people are really going to enjoy what they see."
The Six programs making the trip to Aggieland include, Arkansas Little-Rock, TCU, Texas A&M Kingsville, North Texas, UTRGV and UTSA. The schools will compete in 36 events across the track and field.
A&M opened its outdoor campaign last weekend in Puerto Rico at the Carolina Spring Break Classic. The team concluded the meet with 21 event wins, six all-time marks, five meet records and 11 personal best performances.
"I thought our week in Puerto Rico was very beneficial," Henry added. "The training was good, and it allowed us to come together as groups which is good for camaraderie. We had a lot of great marks especially for the season opener, so I was very pleased overall."
Five Aggies registered national-leading marks in Puerto Rico, including Lianna Davidson in the women's javelin (57.28m/187-11), Carter Bajoit in the men's high jump (2.25m/7-4.5), Kimar Farquharson in the 800m (1:46.20), Sam Whitmarsh in the 1500m (3:44.51) and Bryce McCray in the 400m hurdles (50.12).
