Aggies Battle at Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational
Sep 27, 2024 | Cross Country
MADISON – The Texas A&M cross country team wrapped up the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational with a 23rd-place finish on the men's side and 24th on the women's Friday at the Thomas Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course.
Friday's race featured some of the premier teams in the nation, including 16 men's teams and 13 women's teams that competed in the 2023 national championship meet last season.
"On both sides, we didn't get out very aggressively," Distance coach Wendel McRaven said. "I think both groups moved up throughout the race, but we probably dug ourselves too big of a hole early. We have work to do if our intention is to be back here in November. The good thing is that we are capable of doing that work."
On the women's side, Megan Roberts was the Maroon & White's top point scorer after posting a 6k time of 21:24.5 for 96th place. The other top five finishers included Maddie Peters in 130th (21:44.5), Elise Smoot in 140th (21:50.2), Kennady Fontenot in 148th (21:57.3) and Emma Little in 153rd (22:00.0).
Sophomore Zack Munger was the leading point scorer for the Aggie men for the third-consecutive meet after recording an 8k time of 24:35.9 for 88th. The remaining top five finishers included Jack Johnston in 96th (24:38.4), Aiden Gonzalez-Rodiles in 138th (25:14.8), Gilbert Rono in 150th (25:26.3) and Carter Gordy in 156th (25:40.3).
