Jan 07, 2025 | Women's Tennis
HONOLULU – The No. 2 Texas A&M women's tennis team opens the 2025 regular season in the Weinman Foundation Invitational at the UH Tennis Complex Wednesday to Saturday with matches starting at 2 p.m.
The Aggies look to carry over their historic performance from the 2024 campaign, where they held a 28-7 record on their way to a program first NCAA title and a third-consecutive SEC regular season title.
"We're having some great practices here in beautiful Hawaii," head coach Mark Weaver said. "We're taking advantage of some great weather and are working hard as we prepare for some valuable match experience over the course of the next several days."
The No. 2 ranked Aggies take on No. 17 USC and Hawaii in the tournament. Leading Texas A&M into battle is the No. 4 player in the country and reigning ITA National Player of the Year, Mary Stoiana. The Maroon & White also boast another two ranked singles players in No. 15 Nicole Khirin and No. 102 Daria Smetannikov. In doubles, Smetannikov and freshman Lexington Reed pair as the No. 70 doubles team.
Matches begin Wednesday with doubles action at 2 p.m. Mia Kupres/Smetannikov face USC's No. 7 Lily Fairclough/Grace Piper. Khirin/Jeanette Mireles pair to take on Hawaii's Galindo/Nepomuceno, and Lucciana Perez/Reed battle Hawaii's Ana Vilcek/Nikola Homolkova.
Singles action begins shortly after, with six Aggies having matchups. Mireles faces Hawaii's Joelle Lanz and No. 15 Khirin battles USC's No. 45 Emma Charney. Reed takes on Hawaii's Hannah Galindo, while Perez faces Hawaii's Vilcek. Smetannikov matches up with Hawaii's Peppi Ramstedt, followed by a Kupres match versus USC's No. 57 Imogen Haddad.
