Aggies Dominate Razorbacks for 62nd Straight Home Victory
Feb 28, 2025 | Women's Tennis
BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – The No. 5 Texas A&M women's tennis team pushed its home winning streak to 62-straight matches after downing Arkansas, 7-0, Friday at the Mitchell Tennis Center.
The Maroon & White had their most dominant performance of the season, securing their fifth shutout of the year and fourth at home. The Aggies did not drop a single set throughout the match and outscored the Razorbacks 84-21.
Texas A&M (11-1, 2-0 SEC) began the evening with two dominant victories on doubles courts 2 and 3. Mia Kupres/Daria Smetannikov were the first to strike, making quick work of No. 78 Anet Koskel/Grace O'Donnell for a 6-1 triumph. Nicole Khirin/Lexington Reed raced Mary Stoiana/Lucciana Perez to secure the doubles point, as both courts were at 40 points with a 5-3 lead, and the duo dealt the clinching blow versus Jimena Gomez Alonso/Katarina Pavlechova to give the Maroon & White a 1-0 lead.
Reed continued the Aggie onslaught in singles on court 6, shutting out Gomez Alonso (6-0, 6-0) for her 17th win of the season for the second point of the match.
The Maroon & White clinched the victory in a rapid-fire finish on Jane Wright '76 court and court 4, with No. 15 Khirin claiming point three over Olga Bienzobas in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1. Seconds later, No. 55 Perez secured the fourth point against Pavlechova (6-1, 6-0) to ensure the victory.
After the match was clinched, three more Aggies added points to complete the shutout. No. 3 Stoiana picked up her team-high 12th ranked win of the year on court 1 versus No. 78 Carolina Gomez Alonso, 6-1, 6-1. Smetannikov followed with a win on court 5, downing O'Donnell 6-3, 6-2. No. 90 Kupres capped off the match with a victory on court 3 against Koskel (6-4, 6-2) to complete the sweep.
Prior to the start of the match, Texas A&M recognized Jane Wright '76, naming court 2 after her. Wright played tennis for the Maroon & White in the mid-1970s, and was among the first female-student athletes to compete for the Aggies. The '76 graduate continues to make history, as she is the first female former student-athlete to make a seven-figure donation in support of Texas A&M Athletics.

COACH'S QUOTES
Head coach Mark Weaver
On the teams preparation…
"We were very business-like today. We had a great week of practice. In a lot of ways, it was our best week of preparation. We had great weather, and the girls really came out and worked hard this week. I feel like we've raised our games perhaps even a half level from where we've already played at a high level this season. We had a great crowd tonight; I want to thank the 12th man for coming out. Let's bring you back out again on Sunday for a huge match against Oklahoma."
Senior Mary Stoiana
On former Aggie student-athlete Jane Wright '76 and her generous donation to the women's tennis team …
"What an awesome story there. A former player, I mean, she's been right in our shoes and for her to come and be as generous as she was, it means a lot to us as a program. Every time we come out and train and compete, we're doing it for all of Aggieland and for people like Jane. Her donation was just so generous, and we are so grateful to her."
