BRYAN COLLEGE-STATION – The No. 5 Texas A&M women's tennis team continues SEC play Friday versus Arkansas at 5 p.m. and Sunday against No. 12 Oklahoma at noon at the Mitchell Tennis Center.
The Aggies (10-1, 1-0 SEC) opened league play against No. 11 Texas, storming back from a 3-0 deficit to claim a thrilling 4-3 victory.
Texas A&M is led by back-to-back SEC Player of the Year, Mary Stoiana, who leads the team in ranked wins with 11 and rates as the No. 3 singles player in the nation. Stoiana is one of four Aggies who earned All-SEC honors last year, as she was named All-SEC First Team along with Nicole Khirin and Mia Kupres. Lucciana Perez was the 2024 SEC Freshman of the Year and was named to the All-SEC Second Team and the SEC All-Freshman Team.
Khirin, who earned All-American status after reaching the NCAA Individual Championship quarterfinals earlier this season, is the No. 15 singles player in the country. The junior owns eight ranked victories and boasts the second-most wins on the team with 20.
Rounding out the lineup for the Aggies are No. 55 Perez, No. 90 Kupres, Daria Smetannikov and Lexington Reed. Kupres is 9-1 in her last 10 matches, winning her last four. Smetannikov leads the team in total wins with 21 and is coming off her second ranked victory of the year and first over a top 25 opponent.
Reed earned her first league honors last week after the Maroon & White downed Pepperdine, winning the SEC Freshman of the Week award. The freshman has 16 wins on the season.
Arkansas features one ranked player in singles, No. 93 Carolina Gomez Alonso, and one ranked duo, No. 78 Anet Koskel/Grace O'Donnell, while Oklahoma features four in singles, including No. 12 Julia Garcia Ruiz, No. 33 Alina Shcherbinina, No. 64 Emma Staker, No. 105 Ava Catanzarite.
