No. 13 Aggies Calm Crimson Tide in Dominant Sweep
Mar 14, 2025 | Men's Tennis
BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – The No. 13 Texas A&M men's tennis team turned in a dominant 4-0 sweep against Alabama at the Mitchell Tennis Center Friday night to secure its fifth straight win.
The duo of No. 52 Theo Papamalamis and Togan Tokac turned in a dominant performance on court one in doubles, securing a 6-3 victory over the No. 42 pair of Matic Kriznik and Filip Planinsek. The other two courts saw action reach 5-5 with the Aggies needing just one more win to claim the doubles point.
Texas A&M's Luke Casper and Giulio Perego were down 40-love in the 11th game but turned in four straight points to go up 6-5 and protect their serve. Roddick and Pires also broke the tie to get to 6-5 but the Crimson Tide pushed both matches to the tiebreaking set.
Casper and Perego went up 5-1 in the tiebreaker and Alabama's duo stormed back to make it 6-4 in favor of the Maroon & White. Casper would make an emphatic return on the Crimson Tide serve that deflected right off an Alabama player that clinched the doubles point for Texas A&M.
Casper continued his strong play into singles, taking care of his match 6-1, 6-3, to make the count 2-0 in favor of Texas A&M. Togan Tokac followed shortly with a straight set victory of his own (6-3, 6-2) to bring the Aggies within one point of the win, 3-0, and registered his seventh straight triumph.
Alan Magadan would complete the sweep for the Maroon & White after a dominant first set (6-2) and a second set that went down the wire with Magadan coming out on top in the tie breaker (7-2) over No. 91 Matias Ponce De Leon. The win was Magadan's first ranked victory of the season.

Coach's Quotes
Head coach Steve Denton on winning the doubles point…
"Obviously, the doubles point was very big. Winning court one was important and then the other two doubles were tiebreakers. We were down several breaks and Luke and Giulio hung in there and found a way to get it done."
On the momentum throughout the match…
"After the doubles point, our guys got out on top of them in singles and were able to win some close matches. We had a lot of momentum in singles, and I thought that was due to what we did in doubles.
On what the team needs to work on moving forward to improve…
"We have to continue to work and get better in practice. Our guys have to focus on the little things in order to get five percent better every day. That is what you are looking for at this time in the season. Momentum is fleeting so we have to pay attention and be alert."
