Mar 14, 2025 | Softball
AUBURN – The No. 6 Texas A&M softball team stole game one in extra innings, 5-4, against No. 22 Auburn Friday night at Jane B. Moore Field.
Kennedy Powell drove in Koko Wooley to give Texas A&M (22-4, 2-2 SEC) its first lead, while Mya Perez followed with an RBI double as the Aggies carried a 5-3 lead to the bottom of the eighth. Auburn (20-6, 0-4 SEC) cut the deficit in half with a solo shot, before Emiley Kennedy forced a pair of ground outs to end the game.
Kennedy earned her seventh win of the season going the distance and striking out a season-high 11 batters. After putting herself behind the eight ball in the opening frame by allowing three runs on two hits and two walks, the All-American settled down and retired seven of the next eight batters as the Aggies trailed 3-0 through the third.
In the ensuing inning, Harper put the Maroon & White on the board with a two-run dinger to right center to bring the Aggies within one, 3-2. Ol' Sarge's charges kept battling and evened the playing field in the sixth when Powell scored after a sliding collision at the plate via sac fly from Harper, to tie it 3-3.
The Aggies were sat down in order to begin the seventh frame, while Kennedy struck out the side swinging to send the game to extra innings.
