No. 2 Aggies Capture Fourth-Straight Victory Versus No. 7 Tennessee
Mar 30, 2025 | Women's Tennis
KNOXVILLE – The No. 2 Texas A&M women's tennis team downed No. 7 Tennessee, 4-1, for its fourth-straight win, improving to 19-2 and 10-1 in the SEC.
The Volunteers (14-4, 8-3 SEC) went up early in doubles action, but the Aggies responded with four consecutive wins in singles to claim their eight victory versus a top 25 opponent.
Reed was the first to strike for the Aggies, evening the score at 1-1 after downing Saray Yli-Piipari on court 6, 6-4, 6-3. The freshman is now 7-1 in league play.
No. 80 Daria Smetannikov gave the Aggies the lead with her 25th win of the season, defeating Maeve Thornton 7-5, 6-3.
No. 40 Lucciana Perez added the third point of the day on court 4 with a 4-6, 6-1, 6-3 triumph over Vanesa Suarez for her 11th-straight victory, improving her overall record to 19-3. Perez remains undefeated in conference matches at 10-0.
No. 2 Stoiana delivered the clinching blow on court 1, claiming her team-high 17th ranked win of the year over No. 7 Elza Tomase, 7-5, 7-6(4).
Texas A&M heads back to Aggieland to defend the Mitchell Tennis Center versus Mississippi State on Friday at 12 p.m.

On the win…
"Very impressive road win. One of the best, in my opinion. To have a very rough start in doubles and respond the way we did in the singles to beat a top 10 SEC team on the road indoors was beyond impressive. There isn't much more to say than that. This group continues to impress me day in and day out."
