No. 15 Aggies Comeback to Dominate Tigers, 5-2
Mar 06, 2025 | Men's Tennis
BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – The No. 15 Texas A&M men's tennis team tamed the Auburn Tigers 5-2, at the Mitchell Tennis Center on Thursday.
Freshman Theo Papamalamis clinched the victory for the Aggies, extending Auburn's losing streak on the road. After splitting the first two sets, No. 38 Papamalamis dominated in the third against Auburn senior Will Nolan, 6-2, 4-6, 6-1.
Texas A&M (9-5, 3-1 SEC) opened with senior duo of Luke Casper and Giulio Perego taking court 3, 6-3. Auburn (10-5, 2-3 SEC) responded with a win on court 1. It all came down to court 2, where the Aggies dropped the doubles point in a tiebreaker.
Senior Alan Magadan recorded his second win as an Aggie, and first win at Mitchell, defeating Billy Blaydes on court 3, 6-2, 6-4, to tie up the score one all.
Sophomore Tiago Pires extended his winning streak to six, staying undefeated in conference play. After a 3-5 deficit to start to the first set, Pires fought back to win the set 7-5, and kept the momentum going to win court 4, 6-3.
After giving up court 2, Casper put an end to his three-game losing streak to put the Maroon & White one short of the clinch, 2-6, 6-3, 6-4.
Once the match was clinched, junior Togan Tokac continued his court 5 domination, extending his winning streak to four, 6-0, (5) 6-7, 6-4.

Coach's Quotes
Head coach Steve Denton on losing the doubles point…
"I thought the doubles point was a very good point. I thought we did very well at court 3. We had lots of chances with deuce points on courts 1 and 2 and lost both of them. I have to give Auburn credit, they played a good tiebreaker to win it."
Denton on the ability to turn around the match…
"Our guys were able to right the ship, we won 5 first sets, but Auburn kept fighting. They are a really good team, but our guys stayed tough the whole night. I was pleased overall with the match and how we competed on every court. That was a really good SEC battle. They came in with a lot of confidence after beating Georgia, but we were able to turn around a few things out there and win some close matches which ultimately was the difference."
Denton on the singles wins from today's action…
"Luke lost the first set and went off to collect himself and came out to play two really good sets against a good freshman from Auburn. He served well and finished out on his serve. Tiago kept on his winning streak. He started behind in his first set, but didn't panic. Alan was solid at court 3. Theo was very good in the third set to round out the win."
