BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – Justin Lamkin tossed six shutout innings and Bear Harrison drove in a career-high seven RBI as the Texas A&M baseball team blanked South Carolina (20-16, 2-12), 17-0, in seven innings Friday evening at Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park.
Lamkin improved to 3-3 on the year after striking out five in six scoreless frames. The junior's scoreless outing was his first of the season, while the quality start marked his team-leading sixth of the year. In relief, Brad Rudis worked a scoreless seventh to complete the Aggies' (19-15, 5-9) third shutout of the season.
In addition to the career-high RBI total, Harrison finished the night 2-for-2 with a double, a homer, two hit-by-pitches and three runs scored. Kaeden Kent followed with a 3-for-4 performance to go along with a homer, two runs scored and four RBI. Jace LaViolette rounded out the multi-hit performers for the Maroon & White as the junior went 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Following a 1-2-3 first from Lamkin, the Aggies raced out to a 4-0 lead in the bottom half. Harrison brought home the first run of the night on a hit-by-pitch with the bases loaded. Kent followed with a two-run single before Blake Binderup capped the scoring with a sacrifice fly to left.
In the third, Kent delivered a two-run homer to right to stretch the Texas A&M lead to 6-0. The junior's eighth long ball of the season left the bat at 105 mph and traveled 342 feet.
After Harrison extended the Aggie advantage to 8-0 in the fourth with a two-out, two-run bloop double to left, the Maroon & White lead bloomed to 15-0 in the fifth with a seven-run frame. With the bases loaded, Texas A&M scored a pair of runs on two wild pitches and LaViolette added an RBI single in between.
Harrison put an exclamation mark on the frame with a mammoth grand slam that left the bat at 107 mph and traveled 406 feet to straightaway center. The grand slam marked the second of the year for the sophomore.
Texas A&M plated two more runs in the sixth courtesy of a Hayden Schott RBI double and a LaViolette RBI groundout to make the final 17-0.
