Aggies Win Eight Events at Oregon Open

EUGENE – The Texas A&M Track & Field team won eight events at the Oregon Open Friday at Hayward Field.
Heather Abadie kicked off the day strong for A&M, as she got the team off to winning ways after claiming the women's pole vault crown with a clearance of 4.23m/13-10.5. Aleksandr Solovev ensured the sweep of the vault titles, with a collegiate-best mark of 5.56m/18-2.75 which jumped him from No. 7 to No. 5 on the A&M all-time performers list. Jack Mann also had a podium outing on the men's side, with a clearance of 5.26m/17-3 which was good for second in the event.
Keeping the momentum rolling in the field, Abigail Martin had her best performance of the year in the women's discus, securing the event title with a toss of 56.71m/186-0. Carlie Weiser was right behind her teammate, as she ensured the 1-2 finish after recording a mark of 51.20m/167-11.
Moving to the track, Sofia Yakushina won the first event of the day for the Aggies on the oval, as she topped the 100m hurdles leaderboard after running a time of 13.52 which was just shy of her personal best (13.51).
A&M continued to strike between the lanes, as Eric Hemphill claimed a victory in the 400m (46.17), while Musa Isah (47.08) and DeMarco Escobar (47.59) also placed second and fifth, respectively. Bryce McCray added a win over the same distance but in the hurdles event with a time of 50.69.
Caden Norris added to the victory column with his best showing in the 800m this season, bringing it home in 1:47.48. Grant Ashby also had an impressive outing, securing back-to-back meets with a personal-best performances after finishing fifth in 1:49.29.
Capping off the wins at the Oregon Open was the men's 4x400m relay team consisting of Isah, McCray, Escobar and Hemphill, as the group won the eighth and final event of the day with a mark of 3:10.29.
Other impressive performances on the day included McKenzie Fairchild in the women's javelin, as she recorded her first mark of 50m this season placing second with a toss of 50.36m/165-2. Diego Heredia topped the Aggie contingent in the 1,500m with a personal-best time of 3:44.11 which debuted him at No. 9 on the A&M all-time performers list. Bria Bullard captured a pair of second-place finishes in the 100m (11.61) and 200m (23.74), while Ethan Sanders rounded out the field results placing second in the discus with a mark of 52.54m/172-4.
