Cherono Breaks School Record, Aggies Shine at Oregon Team Invitational

EUGENE – Texas A&M Track & Field's Debora Cherono highlighted the Aggies' dominant showing at the Oregon Team Invitational as she broke the women's 1,500m school record Saturday at Hayward Field.
The Maroon & White put their stamp on the track in Oregon, as the group won 12 of the possible 22 events on the day, added five all-time marks and downed seven personal bests.
Cherono set the tone for the day on the oval, as she broke the women's 1,500m school record which was held by Athing Mu after crossing the line in 4:15.99. Elise Smoot also jumped up the all-time list to No. 4 in the event with a mark of 4:17.97.
Luca Santorum captured the first victory of the day for the men, as he claimed the 1,500m title with a personal-best time of 3:38.91 which improved his mark at the No. 2 slot in the A&M history books. Cooper Cawthra also ran an impressive race with a time of 3:39.34 which was good for fourth.
The Maroon & White continued to dominate on the track, as they swept the titles in both the men's and women's hurdles. Jasmine Harmon won the 100m hurdles with an impressive time of 13.22, while Jaiya Covington was right behind in second in 13.23. Ja'Qualon Scott won the men's event, as he crossed the line in 13.30 which ranks him fourth in the NCAA this year.
Abigail Martin won the Aggies first event in the field on the day in the discus, as she recorded a toss of 56.37m/184-11 for the victory. Carlie Weiser also logged a third-place result in the event after a mark of 50.05m/164-2, while also placing second in the shot put with a toss of 15.51m/50-10.75.
Sofia Yakushina added another impressive performance to her standout freshman campaign, winning the women's long jump. She leaped 6.11m/20-0.5 on her third attempt to secure the victory and was the only athletes to leap over 6m on two separate attempts. Mason Mangum and Khybah Dawson continued the dominance on the men's side of the event, finishing first (7.72m/25-4) and second (7.44m/24-5), respectively.
A&M's 400m groups stood out among the field, as both the men's and women's duos swept the top-two spots of the event. The women were first up and Kennedy Wade and Jaydan Wood brought it home in 53.42 and 53.52, respectively. On the men's side Hossam Eddine Hatib captured the win with a mark of 46.71, with Cutler Zamzow right behind in the second in 47.14.
It was more of the same from the 100m groups, as Camryn Dickson won the women's event with a time of 11.27, while Jasmine Montgomery finished second in 11.33. Ernest Campbell then followed suit for the men, winning his second 100m event of the year, this time in 10.57.
The final events of the meet were the 4x400m relay's and once again the Maroon & White blew away the field. The women's quartet of Wood, Dickson, Montgomery and Wade crossed the line in 3:31.54 which was over four seconds faster than their closest competitors. The men's group consisting of Zamzow, Musa Isah, Hatib and Eric Hemphill III also finished first in 3:06.02 over two seconds ahead of the runner-up finishers.
A&M's contingent also recorded a trio of all-time marks in the 5,000m, as Kennady Fontenot and Megan Roberts moved up to No. 3 (15:54.01) and No. 4 (16:08.54), respectively. Victor Kibiego also clocked a time of 14:02.06 in the men's event which lands him 10th.
