Apr 27, 2025 | Softball
BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – Texas A&M All-American Emiley Kennedy shutout No. 9 Arkansas to claim the series finale, 2-0, Sunday afternoon at Davis Diamond.
Kennedy dominated Arkansas (36-10, 12-8 SEC) striking out five, while yielding only four hits and four walks. The left-handed ace stranded eight Razorbacks, including four in scoring position. After walking the lead off batter of the game, Lefty punched out the ensuing batter before Arkansas found the hit column leading to runners on second and third. Kennedy struck out the next batter and forced a pop out to end the threat.
Texas A&M (41-8, 14-6 SEC) first threatened in the bottom of the second after KK Dement doubled to right field before Kramer Eschete hit a two-out single to the shortstop as Dement sped past third and was thrown out at home for the final out. The Aggies had another golden opportunity in the third when Frankie Vrazel led off with a single and advanced to second after Mya Perez was walked with two outs. The pair moved up 60 feet after a wild pitch, while Mac Barbara was walked to load the bases before Arkansas exhausted the threat forcing a ground out.
The Maroon & White broke the ice in the bottom of the fourth with two outs after Eschete walked and stole second before Vrazel lined a single to left field to score Eschete. In the ensuing inning, Barbara blasted her 10th home run of the season to double A&M's advantage for a 2-0 lead through five innings.
Arkansas and A&M each sat the opposition down in order in the sixth frame as the Aggies held on to the narrow lead. Kennedy began the seventh striking out the first hog, before yielding a walk. The Woodlands product forced a line out and a swinging strikeout to end the game.
Kennedy moved to 17-4 on the season and recorded the fifth shutout of the season.
