Aggies Capture 4x400m World Lead on Final Day of Florida Relays

GAINESVILLE – The Texas A&M Track & Field men's 4x400m relay team captured the world-leading time in the event on the final day of the Florida Relays Saturday at James G. Pressly Stadium at Percy Beard Track.
The Aggie men's 4x400m relay team left a lasting impression on the crowd in Florida, as the quartet of Antonie Nortje, Cutler Zamzow, Kimar Farquharson and Auhmad Robinson won the final event of the meet with a time of 3:02.15 to claim the fastest time in the world this year. The team stood in third at the final handoff, but a staggering 44.59 second anchor leg from Robinson brought the Maroon & White all the way back to take the title.
Robinson's impressive day started in the 400m, as he opened his outdoor campaign with a blistering time of 44.61 to win the event. The mark broke his personal best and helped him claim the No. 1 time in the NCAA and No. 3 time in the world this year, while also jumping him up from No. 11 to No. 4 on the A&M all-time performers list. The Aggies also had another pair of top-four finishers, as Zamzow ran a career-best time of 45.30 to place second, while Nortje ran 45.41 for fourth. On the women's side of the event, Latasha Smith debuted herself in the A&M history books after running 51.81 which was good for third in the event and 11th in the all-time ranks.
The Maroon & White's relay domination started early in the day, as the women's 4x100m group consisting of Smith, Camryn Dickson, Bria Bullard and Jasmine Montgomery ran a season-best time of 42.94 to win the event and climb to the No. 2 slot nationally in the event.
Dickson doubled down on titles for the day, as the junior won the women's 100m crown after helping the 4x100 relay team capture their win. She ran 11.11 for the win, securing her second 100m title of the outdoor season. Montgomery also impressed in the event, as she topped the second heat and finished third overall with a time of 11.25.
Winny Bii leapt her way into the outdoor record book in the women's triple jump, as she recorded a mark of 13.74m/45-1 to finish as the top collegiate and second overall in the event in her season opener.
Returning to the oval, Farquharson had a career day in the men's 800m after running 1:45.99 which placed him third in the event. The senior's mark pushed him up one spot in the history books, making him only the fifth Aggie to run sub-1:46. Sam Whitmarsh also finished fifth in the event with his best time of the season of 1:46.76.
Jaiya Covington continued to impress in the 100m hurdles, as the junior lowered her time at the No. 3 spot nationally with an all-conditions best time of 12.82 seconds. Ja'Qualon Scott also had a top-five finish in the men's hurdles with a time of 13.57.
Standing out in the throws, Carlie Weiser placed third in the women's shot put with a mark of 15.94m/52-3.75, while Ethan Sanders finished sixth in the men's discus after recording a toss of 56.13m/184-2.
