Texas A&M Opens SEC Tournament Against South Carolina

ATHENS – The nationally ranked No. 1 Texas A&M softball team opens the SEC Tournament as the No. 2 seed against No. 7 seed South Carolina Gamecocks, Thursday night at Jack Turner Stadium. First pitch is set for approximately 7 p.m. or 35 minutes following the conclusion of the No. 3 seed Texas and No. 11 seed Ole Miss game.
Thursday's quarterfinal game will broadcast nationally on the SEC Network with Beth Mowins (play-by-play), Michele Smith (analyst) and Jessica Mendoza (analyst) on the call, while Holly Rowe is the field reporter. All Aggie softball games can be heard on the 12th Man Mobile app or locally on Willy 1550 AM with Matt Simon as the play-by-play voice in his 11th season with Texas A&M softball. WHERE THE AGGIES ARE NATIONALLY
Texas A&M returned to No. 1 in the national ESPN.com/USA Softball, NFCA and D1 Softball polls, while the Aggies are No. 2 in the Softball America rankings. The Maroon & White have had one of the toughest schedules this season ranking fifth in overall strength of schedule and seventh in non-conference strength of schedule. The Aggies have boasted the No. 1 RPI in the nation since April 7, while their 23 wins against top 50 RPI teams are second most in the country. Through May 5, the Aggies rank fourth in the nation in hit-by-pitches (58), 13th in on-base percentage (.439) and 15th in doubles (89), while their 366 total runs are 19th-most in the country. The Aggie pitching staff boasts a 2.68 ERA, ranking 25th in the NCAA and their WHIP of 1.25 is 24th-best. Individually, Mya Perez ranks No. 8 in the country with a .581 on-base percentage and No. 16 with 63 RBI. Emiley Kennedy's six shutouts are the seventh most in the nation, while ranking 24th with 19 wins.
AGGIES IN THE SEC
The Aggies finished second in the SEC regular season at 16-7 with a .696 winning percentage, including an SEC best 9-2 road record. Texas A&M ranks third in SEC play in on-base percentage (.402) and third in stolen bases (21), while the pitching staff has allowed the least number of doubles (15) and fewest hits (135), while holding opponents to a .231 batting average. Individually, Perez finished league play second in on-base percentage (.541) and fifth in batting average (.393), while Mac Barbara's 28 RBI were second most. Kennedy Powell finished second with nine stolen bases and third with 24 runs. Kennedy ranked first in wins (12), second in opposing batting average (.189), fourth in ERA (2.82) and strikeouts (82). Texas A&M won six SEC series, matching the 2024 and 2017 teams for a program best. The Aggies swept three SEC opponents, including their first ever sweep of No. 6 LSU on April 11-13. The Aggies also won all four road series for the first time since joining the league.
ROAD WARRIORS
The Maroon & White are 18-3 in games played outside of Aggieland, including a 9-2 ledger against ranked opponents. Notable wins against ranked opponents include the bookend games at No. 2 Tennessee, doubleheader sweeps at No. 8 Florida State and No. 16 Georgia, as well as a series sweep at No. 22 Auburn. Texas A&M is batting .326 in games on the road and outscoring the opposition 142-60, while opposing hitters are batting .201 at the dish. Koko Wooley (.442) and Perez (.413) are each batting over .400, while Perez (5), KK Dement (5), Amari Harper (3) and Allie Enright (2) have each homered multiple times.
