BIRMINGHAM – Texas A&M Athletics was represented by a program record 105 student-athletes on the 2024-25 First-Year SEC Academic Honor Roll, SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey announced Friday.
The Aggies surpassed the previous record of 101, set last year, on the first-year academic honor roll which recognizes freshmen and transfer student-athletes in their inaugural year at their respective institutions. Texas A&M totaled 377 student-athletes on the SEC academic honor rolls in the fall, winter, spring and first-year lists during the 2024-25 academic year.
"Congratulations to our student-athletes who were named to the First-Year SEC Academic Honor Roll," Director of Athletics Trev Alberts said. "To come to a new university and in year one be a high achiever in the classroom is exceptional. We have student-athletes in every college at our university, and we are incredibly proud of their focus and our culture of developing well-rounded individuals at Texas A&M."
The program with the most first-year selections was baseball with 20, followed by football which boasted 19.
"The recent first-year honor roll release marks an outstanding year academically for Texas A&M student-athletes," Executive Associate Athletic Director of Academics and Student-Athlete Engagement Dr. Dan Childs said. "At a prestigious university like Texas A&M, achieving the honor roll is no easy task, particularly for first-year students. We're excited for those student-athletes who have dedicated themselves to their studies and have strived for excellence in the classroom. This past academic year was a historic year academically for Texas A&M student-athletes, with a record number of student-athletes with a 3.0 or higher GPA. The overall GPA for the department is above 3.0 and has continued to improve. Congratulations to Texas A&M student-athletes for achieving the first-year honor roll and their overall commitment to academic excellence."
The following criteria was followed:

(3) Student-athletes eligible for the Honor Roll include those receiving an athletics scholarship, recipients of an athletics award (i.e., letter winner), and non-scholarship student-athletes who have been on a varsity team for two seasons.
(4) Prior to being nominated, a student-athlete must have successfully completed 24 semester or 36 quarter hours of non-remedial academic credit toward a baccalaureate degree at the nominating institution.
