No. 5 Aggies Host No. 10 Texas to Open SEC Play

BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – The No. 5 Texas A&M women's tennis team opens SEC play Sunday, hosting No. 10 Texas in the Cotton Holdings Lone Star Showdown at the Mitchell Tennis Center. First serves are set for 12 p.m.
This marks the 61st meeting between the longtime rivals. The Aggies have won eight of the last 11 meetings, including all three matches in 2025. Last year's victories included the ITA National Indoor Championship quarterfinals, the SEC opener in Austin and a 4-0 triumph in the SEC Tournament quarterfinals. The Longhorns own a 46-14 edge in the series.
Texas A&M enters the weekend with an 8-2 record, most recently competing at the ITA National Indoor Championships. The Aggies earned top-15 victories over No. 12 Vanderbilt and No. 6 Oklahoma to advance to the semifinals before falling to No. 10 Ohio State, 4-2. In the latest ITA rankings, Lucciana Perez leads the Aggies at No. 5 in singles, followed by Mia Kupres at No. 35, while the duo ranks No. 15 nationally in doubles.
Texas arrives in College Station with a 5-2 record with ranked wins over No. 12 Vanderbilt (4-1) and No. 7 Duke (4-3). The Longhorns are coming off a 7-0 sweep of UTRGV and are led by No. 3 Carmen Herea and No. 21 Anastasia Abbagnato in singles competition. Texas also features two ranked doubles pairings, including the No. 28 tandem of Abbagnato/Ariana Anazagasty-Pursoo and the No. 43 duo of Elizabeth Ionescu/Carmen Herea.
