
Track & Field Hits the Road for Tom Jones Memorial

GAINESVILLE – The Texas A&M track & field team travels to the Tom Jones Memorial at the James G. Pressly Stadium at Percy Beard Track, April 17-18.
Rolling into the fourth week of the outdoor season, A&M continued to rise in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association rankings as the women stand at No. 2 nationally and the men land at No. 3.
Last Time Out
The Maroon & White had a successful weekend at home during the 44 Farms Team Invitational as the group captured 21 event titles, four all-time marks and 25 personal bests.
The Aggie women put on a dominant showing as they collected 11 wins. Six of the victories came on the track courtesy of Camryn Dickson (100m), Anya Jackson (200m), Jaiya Covington (100m hurdles), Debora Cherono (1,500m), Kennady Fontenot (3,000m steeplechase) and the women's 4x100m relay. The Maroon & White added field wins from Jayla Hooper (hammer throw), Lily Carlson (pole vault), Morgan Davis (long jump), Abigail Martin (discus) and Milena Chevallier (high jump).
The men swept 10 events overall, earning eight on the track, one in the field and one multi-event title. In the running events the Aggies saw victories from David Foster (100m), Ja'Qualon Scott (110m hurdles), Kimar Farquharson (400m), Reece Sharman-Newell (1,500m), Hunter Jackson (3,000m steeplechase), Aiden Gonzalez-Rodiles (5,000m), the 4x100m relay and 4x400m relay. Henry Zimmerman claimed the hammer throw and Blake Harris took the top spot in the decathlon.
The Texas A&M record book continued to see additions and alterations as Harris climbed from No. 7 to No. 4 in the decathlon with a personal best total of 7,727, while Carlson made her debut at No. 3 on the outdoor list as she cleared 4.20m/13-9.25 in the women's pole vault. Sharman-Newell entered at sixth in the 1,500m with a time of 3:43.52 and Chevallier premiered at No. 10 in the women's high jump (1.82m/5-11.5).
Top-Ranked Aggies
The Aggie women hold seven top-five marks in the country, Cherono in the 3,000m steeplechase (9:56.45) and Covington in the 100m hurdles (12.79) both rank second nationally. Dickson stands at third in the 100m (11.02) and fourth in the 200m (22.69), while Jackson sits in third in the 200m (22.56). Rounding out the rankings on the women's side are Katelyn Fairchild in the javelin (56.59m/185-8) and the women's 4x100m relay (43.03) in fifth.
The men hold five top-five marks nationally, including No. 3 times from Scott in the 110m hurdles (13.36) and the men's 4x400m relay (3:01.62). In fourth are Etoro Bassey in the high jump (2.19m/7-2.25) and Lawson Jacobs in the 400m (45.12), while Sharman-Newell ranks fifth in the 800m (1:46.57).
