Aggies Break School Record; Win Two Events on Final Day of Tom Jones Memorial

GAINESVILLE – The Texas A&M track & field team downed a school record and won a pair of events and on the final day of the Tom Jones Memorial Saturday at the James G. Pressly Stadium at Percy Beard Track.
Henry Zimmerman increased the gap at the top of the Aggie record book in the hammer throw, after recording a personal-best toss of 69.04m/226-6. His mark was good for third overall in the field and second among collegiate athletes. He also climbs to 12th in the NCAA this year following the result and ranks fourth in the SEC.
The Aggies' freshman phenom, Peter Narumbe, topped the national ranks in his outdoor 800m season debut after crossing the line in 1:45.05. His mark won the meet and entered him among the A&M greats at No. 5 on the all-time performers list. Reece Sharman-Newell also climbed up two spots in the record book to No. 7 after a time of 1:46.14, while Stefon Dodoo made his first appearance on the all-time list at No. 11 with a time of 1:46.46.
The final win of the weekend came from the men's 4x400m team, as the quartet of Eric Hemphill III, Lawson Jacobs, Iliya Dryaba and Kimar Farquharson crossed the line in a season-best time of 3:01.56. Farquharson ensured the win with a 44.78 final leg which was the fastest of all anchors. The women's group consisting of Jahnile Registre, Camryn Dickson, Jasmine Montgomery and Lacarthea Cooper ran 3:27.47 which landed them at No. 12 on A&M's record book and sixth in the field.
Lily Carlson continued her upward trajectory in the women's pole vault ranks at Texas A&M, after soaring to No. 2 all-time following a clearance of 4.30m/14-1.25. She now ranks in the top-20 nationally and second among freshmen.
Ja'Qualon Scott secured his second podium finish of the weekend, after finishing second in the 110m hurdles final in 13.41. On the women's side Jaiya Covington also qualified for the final in the 100m hurdles and clocked 13.17 which was good for seventh.
In the 400m events, the men recorded a 5-6 finish courtesy of Jacobs and Farquharson. Jacobs ran his second-fastest time this season of 45.20, while Farquharson was right behind with a personal-best time of 45.39. Cooper topped the women's group with a career-best mark of 51.63 which enters at No. 10 in the Maroon & White's record books.
Staying strong in the throws on the weekend, Abigail Martin recorded a toss of 56.43m/185-1 to place fourth in the invitational discus. Ethan Sanders also ranked fourth in the men's open discus after throwing 55.37m/181-8, and Carlie Weiser rounded out the group finishing third in the open women's shot put with a mark of 15.89m/52-1.75.
The Aggies saw success earlier in the day in the men's 4x100m, as the team of Matthew Maldima, David Foster, Blake Holland and Keanu Jones matched their season-best time of 39.20 to place fourth.
