
No. 2 Aggies Face No. 14 Vanderbilt in SEC Tournament Quarterfinal

NORMAN – The No. 2 Texas A&M women's tennis team starts its path toward a conference double with Friday's SEC Tournament quarterfinal match against No. 14 Vanderbilt. The Aggies and Commodores offer up first serves at noon from Oklahoma's Headington Family Tennis Center.
The Aggies finished the league slate with a 13-2 mark to claim a share of their fifth consecutive SEC regular season title, equaling a conference record. The Maroon & White own the No. 2 seed in the tournament and enter the fray with a 21-4 overall record.
Lucciana Perez owns the No. 1 spot in the ITA singles rankings with a 22-0 record. She finished league play with a 13-0 mark and she owns a 32-match win streak in SEC regular season action.
Four other Aggies join Perez on the ITA singles rankings, including Mia Kupres (No. 41), Ilinca Amariei (No. 62), Daria Smetannikov (No. 111) and Lexington Reed (No. 123). Perez/Kupres own the No. 15 spot in doubles along with Amariei/Martinez at No. 47.
Vanderbilt advanced to the quarterfinal round with a 4-3 victory over Ole Miss in Thursday's second round action. The Commodores are 20-8 on the season and posted a 9-6 league mark. Vanderbilt features three ranked singles players, including No. 9 Bridget Stammel, No. 24 Celia-Belle Mohr and No. 30 Valeria Ray. On the doubles courts, Mohr/Sophia Webster own the No. 6 spot while Ray/Stammel are slotted No. 11.
The squads are meeting for the third time this season with both matches coming in February. Texas A&M toppled Vanderbilt, 4-2, in the round of sixteen at the ITA Indoor Championships. The Aggies won the conference bout, 5-2, in Nashville.
Friday's match marks the 21st meeting with Texas A&M owning a 14-6 edge in the series.
The winner faces No. 3 Auburn or No. 12 Florida in Saturday's noon semifinal tilt.
