No. 2 Aggies Down K-State, 11-8
Nov 11, 2011 | Equestrian
The Aggies (7-0) took an early three-point lead courtesy the fences riders and then were solid across the board the rest of the afternoon to seal the victory in their second-to-last show of the fall season. The Wildcats, who lost to A&M for the 10th straight time, fell to 2-4.
A&M jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead on the day, as Emily Williams, Kelsi Shevlin and Lia Chafee took the first three points over fences. Chafee's ride was good enough to earn MVP honors after an 86-76 victory over Kate Hennessy. Maggie Earle then closed fences action with a 45-point win over Rachel Webster to stake the maroon and white to a 4-1 advantage.
Up next was horsemanship, where K-State claimed the first two points, but A&M responded by taking the final three to increase its lead to 7-3. Carey Nowacek remained perfect on the year with a 71-68.5 win over Hannah Ribera, and teammates Cassie Mantor and Amanda Brightwell followed right after with victories of their own.
On the flat, Hannah Soibelman and Elizabeth Solch each earned wins. That, coupled with a tie by Chafee, made the score 9-5 Texas A&M heading into reining. Emma Myers clinched the overall team win with a 73-66.5 victory over Alayna Warner, and Becca Murray grabbed the Aggies' final point of the afternoon and an MVP award as she topped Jesse Johnson 69.5-67.5.
Overall, the hunter seat team improved to 5-2 on the year with a three-point win, while the western riders stayed perfect after picking up the victory in raw score.
Texas A&M will close out its fall season next Friday, Nov. 18 when the Aggies travel to Waco to face Baylor.
