Freshman Tori Vidales wasted no time putting the Aggies on the board, sending the first pitch of the game over the left field wall for her 19th home run of the season.
The Sooners answered in the home half of the first, scoring two on back-to-back two out RBI singles, one to left field and one to right, to take their first lead of the game. With runners on the corners, Fox shut down the next offering, ending the inning with her first strikeout of the day.
Trailing 2-1, freshman Kristen Cuyos evened the game with her second dinger of the weekend, tenth of the season, in her first at bat of the day. After drawing a full count walk, sophomore Celena Massey was caught out at second on a fielder's choice from freshman Erica Russell. With two gone, senior Brittany Clopton sent a single rolling through the left side to put two on the bags with Vidales at the dish. Adding to her big day, Vidales drilled a two RBI double into center field, clearing the bags to regain the Aggie lead at 4-2.
Trailing by two, Oklahoma senior Lauren Chamberlain, the NCAA overall home run leader, did what she does best and sent a ball over the center field wall to chip into the Aggie lead.
A&M continued the homerun derby it started in the first inning, with junior Breanna Dozier going yard in the top of the third to push the lead back to two runs at 5-3.
The game stayed at 5-3 in favor of the Aggies until the bottom of the sixth, when the Sooners cut the deficit in half with a solo home runs.
Texas A&M went down 1-2-3 in the top of the seventh, with junior Katie Marksentering the circle in search of her second save of the weekend in the bottom of the inning.
After allowing a leadoff walk, Marks retired the next batter on a fly out. The next batter up sent the ball over the right field wall, giving Oklahoma the 7-5 win on a two-run homer.
Coach Evans Post Game Sound
"I thought it was a hard fought game. I thought our kids played hard, thought we had great attitude, great effort. We got some great performances offensively. We made a couple miscues on defense but all-in-all, I thought our kids played well and embraced the environment and did a nice job with it. It is really disappointing to drop that game. This isn't a situation where I am thinking 'well at least we were close'. I don't feel like that at all. I am upset that we didn't win and we had our opportunity. And having said that, I am still proud of my ball club for the way we played and how hard we fought. We certainly had a chance to win that game."
