No. 2 South Carolina Edges No. 15 Women On Last-Second Free Throw
Jan 17, 2016 | Women's Basketball
COLUMBIA, S.C.- Khadijah Sessions hit a free throw with 0.9 seconds to play to cap a wild finish, as No. 2 South Carolina edged No. 15 Texas A&M in a women's basketball game at Colonial Life Arena.
Chelsea Jennings, who had 14 points, tied the score with a layup with just one second to play at 58, but in the ensuing chaos, A&M fouled Sessions, who made one-of-two free throws to give the Gamecocks (17-0, 5-0 SEC) their 43rd straight home win.
Texas A&M (13-5, 3-2 SEC) trailed by six with 2:34 to play, but rallied to have the ball, down two, with 13 seconds to play. Jordan Jones, the Aggies' leading scorer with a season-high 17 points, drove to the lane and got fouled, but made one of two free throws. Sessions made one of two on the other end, which set up Jennings' length-of-the-court layup.
The game featured 19 lead changes and four ties, as A&M led after every quarter. Courtney Walker, who had 16 points, had a second quarter buzzer beater to give A&M a 27-26 halftime lead.
Rachel Mitchell had a career-high five blocks and eight rebounds.
The Aggies return home on Thursday, January 21 to host Missouri at 7 p.m. on SEC Network Plus.
