Match Day Preview: Missouri
Oct 05, 2016 | Soccer
COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The Texas A&M Aggies return to action Thursday evening as they host the Missouri Tigers in a 6:30 pm contest at Ellis Field.
Junior HALEY POUNDS ranks eighth in the league with 16 points and six goals. Senior goalkeeper DANIELLE RICE leads the SEC in shutouts (five) and ranks second in goals against average (0.75) and fourth in save percentage (.791).
Last season, the teams squared off in the regular-season finale with Missouri possessing a chance to win a share of the league crown with a victory. The Aggies trampled on the Tigers' title dreams with a 1-1 draw that featured a penalty kick save by Rice in the first overtime period.
The Aggies' current injury-induced, three-game losing streak includes defeats at Vanderbilt (2-0) and Alabama (2-1 ot) with four starters out of action and a 1-0 home loss to South Carolina last Thursday with three starters unavailable.
Texas A&M is looking to avoid the first four-match losing streak in school history. The Aggies had four-loss stretches in 2002, 2006 and 2011. The Maroon and White only have two strings of four or more winless games, going 0-3-1 during a four-game stretch in 2006 and 0-2-3 over a five-game span in 2010.
Promotions for the event includes Dixie Chicken Night and International Student Night. Promotions for all Texas A&M athletic events can be found at www.12thman.com/Promotions.
Thursday's match will be available digitally on mobile devices and connect-TVs for SEC Network subscribers whose cable/satellite packages allow access to SEC Network+ through the WatchESPN app and SECSports.com. David Ellis (play-by-play) and Kristi Leonard (color) will be on the call. Fans can listen to both matches locally on KWBC AM 1550 or worldwide on www.12thMan.com/Listen.
