Mar 02, 2016 | Softball
COLLEGE STATION – The No. 9 Aggie softball team travels to California to compete in the San Diego Classic, Friday through Sunday, at the University of San Diego and San Diego State.
A&M (17-1) will get under way Friday at 6:30 p.m. CT against Boston University, before taking on San Diego State at 9 p.m. CT. The Aggies face off against Grand Canyon and San Diego Saturday beginning at 1:30 p.m. CT and close the tournament Sunday with Pitt and Utah Valley.
"I am excited about the start that we have had," head coach Jo Evans said. "I like the way our team is playing right now. It is going to be a fun trip for us in San Diego. We will have a tough test at San Diego State, and we are going to have to play well to beat them. We have had lots of good games with them so we know how they compete. For us, it will be a matter of keeping the foot on the gas and keep playing the way we have been playing and really being relentless in the games that we should win."
The Aggies, who lead the nation in home runs with 31, are led offensively by sophomore Kristen Cuyos' SEC-leading seven home runs. Freshman Keeli Milligan leads the NCAA with 22 stolen bases while hitting .433 at the top of the lineup.
In the circle, freshman Samantha Show is 10-1 on the season with a 1.88 ERA and tops the country in wins. Sophomore Trinity Harrington is 4-0 with a 0.34 ERA, and senior Katie Marks is 3-0 with a 1.67 ERA.
During the Aggies 14-game winning streak, A&M is outscoring its opponents, 134-30, and nine players are hitting .333 or better. Defensively, the Aggies have given up 18 earned runs in 84.0 innings of work.
Friday's games can be heard on The Fusion 95.1-2 HD or online at www.RadioAggieland.com. Saturday and Sunday's games can be heard locally on KWBC 1550 AM as well as RadioAgglieland.com.
