COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The No. 14 Texas A&M Aggies look for their eighth consecutive victory when they face the LSU Tigers Thursday night in Baton Rouge. First kick at LSU Soccer Stadium is slated for 6:05 p.m.
Thursday's match airs on the SEC Network with Jenn Hildreth providing the play-by-play and Heather Mitts offering the color analysis. The match will be available digitally on mobile devices, computers and connect-TVs for SEC Network subscribers whose cable/satellite packages allow access to SEC Network+ through the WatchESPN app and SECSports.com. Fans can listen to the match locally on Willy 1550 or worldwide on 12thMan.com/Listen. David Ellis (play-by-play) and Kristi Leonard (color analyst) will handle the call.
The Maroon & White's seven-match win streak has been full of grit with the Aggies' battling through injuries to pull off five one-goal victories. The run is the longest win streak for Texas A&M since they strung together eight triumphs at the end of the 2014 season, a stretch that culminated in their first-ever College Cup appearance.
The Aggies enter action alone in second place in the SEC standings with 18 points (6-1-0). They trail first-place South Carolina (21 pts - 7-0-0) with three matches left on the league slate.
After struggling to find her footing the first eight matches, sophomore forward Ally Watt has turned it on the last six contests. Over that stretch the mercurial Colorado Springs, Colo., native has tallied 12 points on five goals and two assists while the Aggies have gone 6-0-0. In the first eight matches, Watt scored just one goal as the A&M started the year 5-2-1.
The Aggies have fared well in tightly contest matches in 2017, going 6-1-1 (.813) in matches decided by one goal or less. This year A&M has posted one-goal wins over Pepperdine (1-0, ot), Florida (2-1), Arkansas (2-1), Utah Valley (1-0), Georgia (2-1, 2ot) and Ole Miss (1-0). They played Oklahoma State to a 2-2 draw and suffered a 1-0 loss at Auburn. Last season the Maroon & White didn't fare as well in the same scenario, going 8-5-2 (.600).
Junior goalkeeper Cosette Morché has logged all 1,304 minutes in goal for Texas A&M with a 0.69 goals-against average and six shutouts.
The Aggies are 6-0-1 all-time against LSU, including 5-0-0 since Texas A&M joined the SEC. All the meetings have come since 2009 with the first two bouts coming in the NCAA Championship. In 2009, the Aggies and Tigers played to a 1-1 draw through two overtimes in the NCAA Championship second round in Baton Rouge with A&M advancing on a penalty kick shootout, 4-2. The squads met in College Station for the first round of the 2011 NCAA Championship with the Aggies notching a 4-0 victory.
Last season, the Aggies earned a 3-0 victory over the Tigers at Ellis Field with goals by Grace Piper, Mikaela Harvey and Jordan Hill. Danielle Rice made three saves in the shutout.
The Tigers enter play with an 8-5-2 overall mark and a 1-4-2 record in league play. The SEC win came against Georgia (2-1) with draws against Alabama (1-1) and Mississippi State (2-2). LSU has dropped league matches against Vanderbilt (1-0), Kentucky (3-0), Ole Miss (4-1) and Arkansas (1-0). The Tigers' best non-conference result was a victory against then-No. 19 Cincinnati on Sept. 14. LSU started the season 7-0, outscoring opponents 17-1, before their loss to Vanderbilt. They are 1-5-2 over the last eight matches, getting outscored 18-6.
