STILLWATER, Okla. – The No. 2 Texas A&M equestrian team suffered a 10-8 loss Sunday at No. 5 Oklahoma State at Totusek Arena.
"We had a tough day," head coach Tana McKay said. "It was a great challenge for us as we had not been here for five years. So many of the horses were new to us. We had some strong rides, but it just wasn't enough against a good Oklahoma State team. It was a very well run meet, and we are appreciative that they were able to accommodate us with the late schedule change."
The Cowgirls (3-2) opened the meet with a 4-1 victory in Equitation over Fences. Rebekah Chenelle scored the lone point for Texas A&M, defeating Maggie Drysch, 79-78.
The Maroon & White (6-2) responded with a 2-1 win in Horsemanship. Bailey Cook led off the event with a 73-72 triumph over Sarah Miller. Avery Ellis followed with a 73.5, topping Libby Collins' 72, and was named MOP. Alex Albright and Harley Huff tied at 72.5 and Ashley Davidson and Kirsten Chamberland tied at 74.
In the Hunt Seat arena, the Aggies came out of the break with a win in Equitation on the Flat, 3-2. Chenelle defeated Abigail Brayman, 85-75, to earn MOP honors, before Brianna Peddicord topped Carly Barrick, 80-67. Alex Desiderio closed the meet with a 79-64 win over Drysch.
Oklahoma State won the day's final event, Reining, 3-2. Courtney Yohey edged out Ebba Lange, 69.5-69, and Haley Franc topped Danielle Cohen, 68.5-68.
The Aggies return to action January 25 with an 11 a.m. meet at TCU.
