COLLEGE STATION, Texas – No. 22 Texas A&M continues its challenging Southeastern Conference slate Friday as the Aggies play host to the fifth-ranked Auburn Tigers at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center. First serve is at 4 p.m., and all fans with a valid Texas A&M student ID will be admitted free.
"Auburn is a very fine team and is having the best season in school history," Texas A&M head coach Mark Weaver said. "We have had a great few days of practice, and I am confident that the Aggies will be ready to roll come Friday."
Texas A&M (8-7, 0-4 SEC) is aiming to snap a four-match losing skid, having fallen at No. 18 Arkansas, 6-1, in its most recent outing. Auburn (18-2, 2-1 SEC) also is looking to get back into the win column after it had its 10-match winning streak snapped with a 4-1 home setback against then-No. 13 Georgia on Sunday.
Texas A&M, 3-5 against teams ranked in the top 25 this season, has two players nationally ranked in singles. Senior Rachel Pierson, who plays No. 1 singles and leads the team with an 18-8 overall record, is a team-best No. 44. Senior Rutuja Bhosale, who plays the No. 2 line, is No. 85 and tied with Pierson for most wins in dual matches only with an 8-5 record.
Bhosale and Pierson are ranked 19th in doubles. The pair is 18-6 overall, including 7-4 in dual matches only, all at the No. 1 line.
Auburn boasts three nationally ranked singles players: No. 29 Alizee Michaud, No. 71 Andie Dikosavljevic and No. 102 Taylor Russo. Michaud, a senior, defeated Georgia's 55th-ranked Ellen Perez to earn the Tigers' only point against the Bulldogs and improve to a team-leading 27-5.
Michaud and Russo are No. 8 in the national doubles rankings and are one of three ranked Auburn doubles teams.
Texas A&M is 4-0 against Auburn in matches played in College Station and owns a 6-1 lead in the all-time series. The Tigers, however, defeated the Aggies, 4-2, last year in Auburn.
Texas A&M concludes a two-match homestand on Sunday as the Aggies take on 44th-ranked Alabama. First serve is at noon at the Mitchell Tennis Center
