COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The 25th-ranked Texas A&M women's tennis team concludes a four-match road swing at No. 28 Ole Miss on Sunday in Oxford, Mississippi. First serve against the Rebels is at 1 p.m. at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center.
The Aggies are 10-10 on the season, including 2-6 in SEC matches only after falling at No. 24 Mississippi State, 4-1, on Friday in Starkville, Mississippi.
"The girls have done a great job of fighting all the way through these tough matches, and I am continued to be encouraged by their fight and determination," Texas A&M head coach Mark Weaver said following the match at Mississippi State. "That gives me a lot of confidence that we can make a turn and get these difficult matches to eventually go our way. We will have another good opportunity to do that on Sunday against Ole Miss."
Ole Miss, 12-7 overall and 3-5 in SEC matches only, snapped a two-match losing skid with a 4-0 victory over No. 19 LSU on Friday in Oxford.
Texas A&M has won the last four meetings against the Rebels and owns a 6-1 lead in the all-time series, including a 2-0 lead in matches played in Oxford. Last year, then-Aggie freshman Domenica Gonzalez fought off a match point and completed a high-pressured 3-6, 7-6, 6-2 come-from-behind victory over 73rd-ranked Tea Jandric in the last match standing to give 16th-ranked Texas A&M a thrilling 4-3 comeback victory over No. 27 Ole Miss at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center.
Ole Miss' only victory against the Aggies was in the 2012 season opener, the year before the Aggies joined the SEC.
In the individual ITA national rankings, Texas A&M senior Rachel Pierson is a season-high No. 39 and leads the team in overall victories with a 19-10 record. Senior Rutuja Bhosale is No. 91 in singles and leads the Aggies in total wins in dual matches only with a 10-7 mark.
Bhosale and Pierson are No. 12 in doubles, marking the highest ranking the duo has ever received. The tandem, 8-4 against nationally ranked opponents, is riding a five-match win streak after defeating 11th-ranked Jasmine Lee and Lisa Marie Rioux of Mississippi State on Friday. It marked the second highest ranked win by the Aggie duo this season.
Ole Miss boasts two ranked singles players: No. 71 Arianne Hartono and No. 82 Natalie Suk. Hartono, who earned ITA All-America honors last year after reaching the NCAA Singles Championship round of 16 with a victory over A&M's Saska Gavrilovska in the second round, is 14-10 overall in singles, including 9-7 in dual matches only, all at the No. 1 line. Suk is 12-15 overall and 5-8 in dual matches only. Hartono is ranked 27th in doubles with Anna Vrbenska. The pair is 7-6 in dual matches, including 1-4 in SEC matches only.
