COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The No. 6 Texas A&M Aggies and Auburn Tigers face off in a pivotal SEC match Thursday evening at Ellis Field. Match time is 6 p.m.
The SEC Network will televise the match with Jenn Hildreth (play-by-play) and Heather Mitts (color) handling the call. The contest will be available for viewing on SEC Network+. SECNetwork+ provides events to SEC Network subscribers through WatchESPN and the ESPN app on smartphones, computers, tablets and connected devices (Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick, Apple TV, Chromecast, Roku, Xbox 360 and Xbox One). The game will also air on 102.7 The Zone locally and RadioAggieland.com worldwide.
Both squads need three points on Thursday to stay on the heels of first-place Vanderbilt who leads the league with 12 points on a 4-0-0 SEC record. Texas A&M is tied for fifth with seven points (2-1-1) while Auburn sits in eighth with four points (1-2-1). Heading into play on September, both teams had unblemished ledgers with the Aggies at 11-0-0 and the Tigers at 9-0-0. In their last three matches, Texas A&M is 1-1-1 and Auburn is 0-2-1.
The Aggies have spent a majority of the 2018 campaign in an enviable position. Over the course of 1,190 minutes of play, Texas A&M has trailed for just 75:50. The Maroon & White have owned the lead for 650:54 and action has been tied for 463:16.
The Maroon & White have 12 different players who have scored goals in 2018. Only Mercer (14) and Northwestern State (13) have more players find the back of the net this season. Texas A&M shares the SEC lead with Auburn. Other schools with 12 players logging goals on the season include Florida State, Stanford, TCU and Virginia.
Texas A&M is excelling on both ends of the pitch. Entering the weekend, the Aggies ranked 12th in the country in scoring average (2.62 goals per game) and 13th in goals-against average (0.454). The Maroon & White are one of three teams in the nation to rank in the top 13 of both categories. Texas A&M is joined in the club by Colorado (2nd scoring, 9th gaa) and North Dakota (13th scoring, 2nd gaa).
The Aggies are 5-3-0 all-time against Auburn with all the meetings coming since Texas A&M joined the SEC. Last season, Auburn bested the Aggies' 1-0 in Alabama. Hannah Alspach scored in the ninth minute, and Texas A&M was unable to make up the deficit despite outshooting the Tigers, 14-5, in the second half.
The Tigers started the season 9-0-0, but they've gone 0-2-1 in their last three matches. Auburn yielded just three goals in their first three matches, but then surrendered three apiece in their last two outings. Bri Folds leads Auburn with 22 points on eight goals and six assists. Treva Aycock has 15 points on five goals and five assists and Jessie Gerow has chipped in with 12 points on five goals and two assists. Angelina Daly has 10 points on four goals and two assists.
