Texas A&M’s Goldsmith, Townsend, McQuaid and Makarova Earn Titles at UNLV Rebel Invite

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Texas A&M women's tennis earned three singles and a doubles flight championship at the UNLV Rebel Invite hosted at the Fertitta Tennis Complex in Las Vegas Sunday afternoon. The Maroon & White were 4-1 in singles action and 3-0 in doubles play on the day.
"This was a very good performance overall for our team and a great way to close out the fall season of play," Texas A&M women's tennis head coach Mark Weaver said. "Congratulations to Jayci, Katya and Riley for winning their individual draws and also to Tatiana and Jayci for winning their doubles draw."
Freshman Jayci Goldsmith was the first Aggie to earn a flight championship in Sin City, topping Anna Bogoslavets of UNLV, 6-1, 1-6, 6-0. Freshman Katya Townsend joined Goldsmith in the championship circle, besting Izumi Asano of UNLA, 6-1, 6-2. Sophomore Riley McQuaid rounded out the main draw crowns for the Maroon & White, defeating En-Pei Huang of UNLV 6-1, 6-2.
Sophomore Dorthea Faa-Hviding was tripped up for the first time in Nevada, falling 6-7, 6-4, 10-5 to Maria Medina of Liberty. Sophomore Tatiana Makarova took home the consolation title of flight one with a 6-2, 6-0 triumph over Minying Liang of North Texas.
In doubles action, Goldsmith and Makarova picked up the flight one doubles title with a 7-5 victory against No. 37 Aiwen Zhu and Huang of UNLV.
Faa-Hviding and McQuaid bested Sophia Thomas and Taylor Tamblin of Arizona in the consolation finals of flight two. Townsend and Jessica Anzo ousted Abby Wariner and Amanda Reinhart of Air Force in the third place match of doubles flight three.
Joining the Aggies in the impressive field are competitors from top national programs such as Air Force, Arizona, Iowa, Liberty, North Texas, Purdue, Texas Tech and UNLV. Featuring six flights of singles and three flights of doubles, all matches are free and open to the public.
