Nov 15, 2018 | Soccer
COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The No. 16 Texas A&M Aggies look to advance to their 15th NCAA Championship Sweet Sixteen when they face the TCU Horned Frogs in a second round match Friday afternoon at Regal Soccer Stadium in Knoxville, Tennessee.

Match time is slated for 1 p.m. Central. The action will be streamed on SEC Network+. The match will broadcast in the Brazos Valley on 102.7 The Zone as well as worldwide on RadioAggieland.

The Aggies advanced to the second round for the 21st consecutive season when they posted a 1-0 victory against North Texas last Friday on Ally Watt's 109th minute goal. It marks the third-longest active NCAA second-round streak behind only North Carolina (37) and Virginia (25). The Maroon & White enter play with a 16-4-1 mark.

TCU opened the tournament with a 2-1 victory over BYU, their first-ever NCAA Tournament win. The Horned Frogs are 13-4-3 overall. They are looking to avenge a 1-0 home loss to Texas A&M in an NCAA Championship first round match in 2016.

The Aggies are playing in their 24th consecutive NCAA Division I Championship, one of four teams to play in each tournament since 1995. The other schools to make every tournament since 1995 are North Carolina (1982-2018), Virginia (1994-2018) and Penn State (1995-2018). Texas A&M 36-21-7 (.617) all-time in the NCAA Championship. The Aggies have appeared in the Sweet Sixteen 14 times and have advanced to the Elite Eight six times, including twice since 2015. The Aggies made their first College Cup appearance in 2014.

The Aggies are 11-0-0 all-time against TCU. The teams last met in the 2016 NCAA Championship first round when the Maroon & White posted a 1-0 victory behind Stephanie Malherbe's 7th-minute goal and a shutout by goalkeeper Danielle Rice, who recorded four saves. The series had been dormant since August 2005 when the Aggies notched a 4-0 victory at TCU. Texas A&M is outscoring the Horned Frogs, 38-4, all-time, including 21-0 in the last six meetings.

The Horned Frogs enter play with a 13-4-3 overall record and they finished tied for third in the Big 12 Conference with a 5-3-1 mark. TCU started strong with a 6-0-1 mark. After a rough patch in the middle of the schedule in which they went 1-3-1, the Horned Frogs closed out strong and enter play with a 6-1-1 mark in their last eight matches.

TCU hangs their hat on their defense, owning a 0.81 goals against average and 10 shutouts. Emily Alvarado has seen a majority of action in goal, posting a 0.86 goals-against average and six shutouts in her 14 matches. Maddy Warren leads TCU with 16 points on six goals and four assists. Messiah Bright and Kayla Hill have both added six goals. Yazmeen Ryan has a team-high four game-winning goals and she's contributed 13 points on five goals and three assists.

With the 1-0 win vs. North Texas in the NCAA Championship first round, the Aggies improved to 28-0-5 (.924) against in-state rivals since 2008, including an 11-0-4 record against their former Big 12 Conference colleagues.
