Sep 22, 2018 | Soccer
COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The No. 2 Texas A&M Aggies host the Georgia Bulldogs Sunday for the annual "Turn It Gold" contest to benefit the fight against pediatric cancer. The match is slated for 6 p.m. at Ellis Field
The Aggies look to rebound after suffering their first loss of the 2018 campaign on Thursday. Texas A&M had a school-record 25-match unbeaten streak snapped with their 3-2 loss at Arkansas. Their last loss came at Auburn (0-1) on September 15, 2017. The Aggies enter the fray with an eight-match winning streak at home.
Texas A&M has strung together 12 consecutive games scoring multiple goals, a new school record. It tops the school record set from Oct. 15, 1994 to Sept. 8, 1995. It is the fourth string in school history in which the Maroon & White logged multipe goals in 10 or more consecutive matches.
The Aggies have spent a majority of the 2018 campaign in an enviable position. Over the course of 990 minutes of play, Texas A&M has trailed for just 39:13. The Maroon & White have owned the lead for 563:18 and action has been tied for 387:29.
Texas A&M is 6-1-0 all-time against the Bulldogs with all of the matches coming since the Aggies joined the SEC for the 2012 campaign. Last year, Grace Piper scored a goal in the 109 the minute to give the Maroon & White a 2-1 victory on a rain-soaked afternoon in Athens. Six of the seven matches have been decided by one goal, including Georgia's lone win in the series in 2015.
Georgia is 4-3-3 on the season, including 1-0-1 in SEC play. In league action, the Bulldogs toppled Arkansas, 3-1, and tied Missouri, 0-0, both in Athens.
Reagan Glisson is Georgia's top offensive weapon with 17 points on seven goals and three assists. Abby Boyan is the only other Bulldog with multiple goals, tallying three on the year to go with two assists.
Georgia has managed just 14 goals in 10 matches, but netminder Emery Wegener has been stout in goal, posting a 0.77 goals against average and four shutouts in 939 minutes of play.
The contest will be available for viewing on SEC Network+ with David Ellis (play-by-play) and Jeff Given (color) handling the call. SECNetwork+ provides events to SEC Network subscribers through WatchESPN and the ESPN app on smartphones, computers, tablets and connected devices (Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick, Apple TV, Chromecast, Roku, Xbox 360 and Xbox One). The game will also air on 102.7 The Zone locally and RadioAggieland.com worldwide.
