Texas A&M and Ole Miss Play to 1-1 Draw.
Sep 28, 2018 | Soccer
OXFORD, Mississippi – The No. 5 Texas A&M Aggies outshot Ole Miss, 28-10, but were unable to grab the three points in the SEC standings, as the Rebels managed a 1-1 draw at Ole Miss Soccer Stadium.
The Aggies sent in 10 shots in the second OT period, but were unable to slip a ball by the keeper. In the 104th minute, Ally Watt hit the left post from 10 yards and the ball skirted across the front of goal with an A&M player unable to send it home. With a corner kick in the waning seconds, the Aggies got three shots off, but Marnie Merritt made a diving save on a shot by Jimena Lopez from seven yards and Merritt made another stop on Watt's attempt to put the carom in.
Texas A&M missed two key scoring chances in the second half. Addie McCain missed a penalty kick in the 69th minute and a minute later Kendall Ritchie sent in a free kick from 25 yards that Merritt lost track of, but it went inches wide of the left post.
After a stagnant first half that found Texas A&M trailing 1-0, the Maroon & White came out with a vengeance. After the intermission, the Aggies outshot Ole Miss 22-5, including a 7-3 edge in shots-on-goal.
Watt scored the equalizer in the 59th minute, sending a ball through the keepers legs from 10 yards out.
The goalkeepers came up big with Cosette Morché making five saves and Ole Miss' Marnie Merritt making nine stops.

On the match...
"That draw is a disappointing result. Ole Miss played hard and courageously, but we left two points on the table by not finishing off our golden chances. Their goalkeeper played out of her skin, but we can't squander so many chances when we're all alone with the keeper. We missed a penalty kick, we missed some opportunities on some set pieces and we hit the post on a one-on-one. So the chances were there."
