No. 11 Texas A&M Women’s Tennis Defeats Missouri

COLUMBIA, Mo. – The No. 11 Texas A&M women's tennis team swept Missouri, 5-0, Friday evening at the Mizzou Tennis Complex. The Aggies (17-3, 5-2) won their third straight match with the victory over the Tigers (11-7, 0-6) in the Show Me State.
"Tonight was very well done by the team with a very decisive road win," Texas A&M women's tennis head coach Mark Weaver said. "It was a beautiful day for tennis and we took full advantage of the great conditions."
The Aggies opened the match by securing the doubles point with victories on doubles courts one and three. The Tigers took the first doubles win with a 6-3 win on court two by Ellie Wright and Taylor Gruber over A&M's Renee McBryde and Katya Townsend. A&M's Tatiana Makarova and Jayci Goldsmith, ranked No. 63 nationally, were the next team in the win column as they topped Mizzou's Macken Middlebrooks and Serena Nash, 6-2, on court one. The Maroon & White clad duo of Riley McQuaid and Lucia Quiterio secured the match's first point with a 6-3 win over Missouri's Gabrielle Goldin and Lisa Fukutoku on court three.
In singles action the Aggies maintained momentum, securing first sets on five of six courts. A&M's Tatiana Makarova was the first singles player off the courts, winning 6-1, 6-1 on court four over Missouri's Nash to increase the A&M advantage to 2-0. The victory for Makarova was her 11th in dual matches and her improved her record to 10-3 on court three this spring.
A&M went ahead 3-0 courtesy of a 6-4, 6-4 triumph on court one by No. 50 Townsend over No. 119 Middlebrooks. Townsend, fresh off SEC Player of the Week honors, earned her fourth ranked win of the spring to improve to 13-3 in dual matches and 21-5 overall.
A&M's McBryde clinched the A&M victory with a 7-5, 6-1 victory on court four over Missouri's Wright. The win was McBryde's second straight win and her 10th dual match victory of the spring.
The final point of the night was earned by A&M's Dorthea Faa-Hviding on court six, Faa-Hviding bested Missouri's Goldin 6-2, 6-1 to make the final score 5-0 in A&M's favor. Faa-Hviding improved to 11-1 in dual matched and 17-5 this year.
Next up the Aggies oppose the Arkansas Razorbacks on Sunday in Fayetteville.
