Saturday's match is one of two exhibition matches as the Maroon & White ramp up for four regular-season matches. The Aggies play an exhibition against the Baylor Bears in Waco on Saturday, February 27. Texas A&M opens their regular-season home slate Sunday, March 14 against Abilene Christian. They also host Louisiana-Lafayette (March 20), Texas State (March 27) and TCU (April 10).
For the first time in history, the NCAA will hold its soccer championship in the spring and vernal matches count as part of the regular season. The Aggies are making a push towards their 26th consecutive NCAA Division I Championship appearance and they are one of only four teams to play in every national tournament since 1995.
Texas A&M will rally behind 2020 SEC Coach of the Year G Guerrieri, 2020 SEC Co-Defender of the Year Karlina Sample and 2020 SEC Freshman of the Year Barbara Olivieri they build on their SEC regular-season championship run. The Maroon & White are 8-2-0 at the winter break, including 7-1-0 in SEC play.
The Aggies entered the SEC Tournament as the league leader in both offense and defense. The Maroon & White lead the league in goals per game at 2.25 with 18 tallies in eight games. With the shutout against Auburn in the SEC regular-season finale, Texas A&M moved into first place in goals-against average at 0.63.
The Maroon & White look to remain perfect in their all-time series against the Mean Green, Texas A&M owns a 5-0 edge in the all-time series, but the Mean Green have been tough outs, forcing overtime on three occasions, including double OT in the last two matches. In the most recent match, Ally Watt scored the lone goal in the 109th minute to second the Maroon & White to the NCAA Tournament second round in 2018.
North Texas did not play a fall campaign and the Mean Grean are struggling to get matches under their belts this spring. They claimed a 1-0 win over UIW in an exhibition match on January 29 and then had their next three matches canceled. UNT is coming of a 2019 campaign in which it finished 15-6-1, claimed the Conference USA tournament title and advanced to the NCAA Tournament.
Per Texas A&M University and Southeastern Conference rules, face coverings (over the nose and mouth) will be required as a condition of fan entry, egress and movement throughout the stadium, as well as any time guests are not able to physically distance from others in the same household. Staff will be prepared to provide assistance and enforce the face covering requirement. Not complying may result in removal from the venue.
