Aug 30, 2023 | Soccer
BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Texas A&M Aggies wrap up their season- opening, four-match homestand Thursday as the Maroon & White host head coach G Guerrieri's alma mater at Ellis Field. Game time for the bout against the Tulsa Golden Hurricane is 7 p.m.
The Aggies own a 4-0-0 edge in the all-time series against the Golden Hurricane. Three of the four meetings came at Ellis Field. Texas A&M claimed the first match, 1-0, in 1994. The last meeting between the teams came in 2016 with Texas A&M earning a 2-0 home win. Brittany Crabtree put the Aggies ahead in the 35th minute and Cienna Arrieta posted an insurance goal in the 81st minute. Danielle Rice made six saves in the shutout.
The Maroon & White look to get in the win column on Thursday after drawing 6,743 fans to Ellis Field this past Sunday against Baylor. The total ranks ninth all-time in NCAA history for a regular-season women's soccer match. The Aggies own seven of the 20 highest regular-season attendance marks in NCAA annals.
Maile Hayes looks to continue her streak of goals after scoring goals in two straight games against Washington State and Baylor.
Tulsa comes into the match 0-4, losing to Oklahoma, SFA, Texas A&M Commerce, and Oral Roberts. Tulsa's Kayla Roberts leads the team with two points and a goal.
Guerrieri received his bachelor's degree in education from Tulsa in 1985. Coach G lettered as a goalkeeper for the Golden Hurricane from 1981-84 as they totaled 48 wins over the four seasons. Guerrieri earned All-Midwest Region recognition as a freshman and sophomore. He still owns Tulsa's all-time records for shutouts (21) and saves (283). He capped off his career with a school-record nine shutouts in 1984 and in October of that year he may have stood on his head in making a program-record 17 saves against SMU
The match is available for video streaming on SEC Network + with David Ellis (play-by-play) and Jeff Given (color) providing the commentary. A radio call of the match is available with the voices of Casey Atnip (play-by-play) and David Nuño (color).
